There are wonderful opportunities for everyone to get involved, and for you to be a part of your child’s school. If we all do a little, a lot gets done. Please review the descriptions of the following PTA committees. We would love to get you involved in an area that interests you. Thank you for your support.

Accelerated Reader |
This group helps with the promotion of the Accelerated Reader program at Hickory Flat. All children are encouraged to read books on the Accelerated Reader list and take a computer evaluation of that book. Children accumulate points on each book, and receive rewards. |

Appreciations |
This committee is responsible showing our appreciations to the office staff, nurses, cafeteria workers, custodians, and bus drivers. |

Art Show |
This committee is responsible for working with the HFES Art Department to coordinate the annual Spring Art Show in March. Each year the show represents a different theme which includes a decorated gallery comprising of a piece of artwork from each child. |

Box Tops for Education |
This committee is responsible for promoting, collecting, counting, and mailing box tops from various items for school credit. |

Directory/Advertising |
This committee is responsible for collecting the information from the room parents/ PTA website, collating the data, and preparing the directory for the publisher. Also promotes and gathers paid advertisements to be used in the directory. The advertisements help offset the cost associated with printing the directory. |

Fundraising |
This committee coordinates the sale of the Entertainment Coupon Books. This sale runs for a short time. Sally Foster will also be sold by students. Responsibilities include promoting sale, verifying orders, counting money, establishing student prizes as well as coordinating/distributing prizes/incentives |

Fall Festival |
This committee coordinates the PTA sponsored events that occur during our Fall Festival in October. |

Health |
This committee plans ways to present and promote healthy habits and other health related information to students and their families. |

Helping Hands |
This committee is responsible for assisting the other committees with volunteers for their different events at school and at home, such as cutting, pasting, book fair, special lunches, art show, and health to name a few. |

Honor Roll |
This committee is responsible for working with Dr. Ingram to recognize student performance. They will organize a celebration at the end of each quarter to reward the students’ achievements. |

Hospitality |
This committee creates fantastic events with delicious food and beautiful décor! They are responsible for showing our appreciation to teachers, staff, special guests, and volunteers with special lunches and treats. |

Lead Grade Parent |
The lead grade parent helps to gather and disseminate information between teachers, PTA, and room parents, especially in regard to parties, special events, and other school activities, such as our Fall Festival and Field Day. |

Legislative |
This committee keeps abreast of important legislative developments and changes on the local and state level that affect PTA and our school system. |

Math Superstars |
This committee is responsible for working with the teachers in dispersing, grading, and posting results for the Math Superstar tests to grades K-6. This committee needs volunteers for each classroom to help. |

Media Center/Book Fair |
This committee helps facilitate the two Scholastic Book Fairs, which take place in the fall and spring. They organize the weekly media center helpers. |

Membership |
This committee is responsible for promoting PTA membership. The goal each year is 100% participation from all parents, teachers, and staff. Membership promotes communication between parents and teachers, and gives the school a unified voice to influence legislation affecting children. |

Newsletter |
This committee is responsible for gathering and publishing information received from other committees, administration, and faculty for our monthly newsletter. |

Raffle Baskets |
This committee is solely responsible for coordinating and organizing of class sponsored themed baskets. The themed baskets are raffled during Fall Festival and proceeds are donated to HFES PTA. |

Red Ribbon |
This committee coordinates the school activities during the national Red Ribbon Week. It promotes drug awareness – “Just Say No!” |

Reflections |
This committee promotes and facilitates the National PTA Reflections Program during the fall. This program encourages all students to be creative in literature, photography, visual arts and/or music. All works are submitted for judging during the fall. Winners are submitted for county judging in January. |

| School Store |
The School Store is a new addition to HF’s reward programs. It has been extremely popular with the students this year and we are happy to be able to continue to offer it next year.

This committee is responsible for designing, ordering, selling and dispersing spirit wear. |

Tutoring |
This committee connects students who would benefit from individualized help with parent volunteers. Tutors would work with flash cards or board games, so anyone can do this! Volunteers are needed during the school day. |
